Background / Experience

A leading player in the building materials sector, Mike’s background is as a marketing professional working in executive and non-executive directorships, up to PLC level. His extensive experience incorporates acquisitions, disposals, mergers, global re-locations, restructuring and turnarounds. His previous roles include the formation of Marley Building Materials, managing director of Laird Lifestyle and EWS as well as non-executive directorship at Bristain. As a prominent advocate for the building sector in the UK, Mike founded the “Get Britain Building” campaign, championing investment in new homes and RMI. He also works as a visiting professor in the manufacturing and building department at Birmingham City University.

Business / Sector Interests

Mike has over 40 years of experience with light-side and heavy-side building material manufacturers from start-up to PLC level. As a progressive and strategic leader of the Building Alliance, he drives many initiatives, including improving quality in building, preventing overheating, enhancing indoor air quality, embracing the skills challenge, promoting UK building materials manufacturing and ensuring the importance of SMEs is better understood and valued. An expert in passive fire prevention, he is also part of the Fire Sector Federation and recently established “Resilient Building Solutions”, a partnership with the Fire Protection Association, offering a fire testing and consultancy for the built environment. Mike also conceived and runs the Futures Group, the cross-industry and highly influential new homes "Think Tank" which advises the Government on better building regulation. He has built strong relationships with politicians and civil servants across Europe, Westminster, Devolved Government and the Combined Authorities.
